Book Review: Just You, Me and a Secret by Ganga Bharani

This book is a perfect travel read!

The Blurb:

Pitch dark. Extreme Silence. Felt like vacuum. I opened my eyes and found nothing familiar. Where am I? First of all, who am I? Ashruth says I was head over heels in love with him. He says our wedding was fixed. But there is no trace of love for him in me. I don t remember anything. Why would I have loved this pumpkin? San was drunk but I got intoxicated. I had fallen for him gradually. I can t imagine marrying anyone else. But how do I stop my wedding now? Don t say I am dead. I am all alive, standing right in front of you. I am not dead. Trust me. And the secret comes to light. Just you, me and a secret -A battle between past, present and the nothing called future.

He looked at me but I was still looking at Santhosh in the photograph. He was tall, fair complexioned and looked very adorable. Even in that confused state of mind I couldn’t resist admiring a guy like that. I could have forgotten the past but I still remained a girl made of flesh, bones, blood and hormones. Ashruth toggled the photo and diverted me before I could think any further about Santhosh.

My Review:

Having read GB’s interesting tales, crisp reviews and watched creative short movies on her blog, I read her debut book with a lot of expectation and I must say that she did a wonderful job, much better than established writers did. GB opens her debut book with questions like “Who am I?” “This is me?” “How old am I?” and succeeds in making us feel the same. Meera, the female lead character, do not know who she is finds herself in a locked room in a stranger’s house, Ashruth, who claims to be her lover and she was head over heels in love with him, which she could not believe it.

She was given her diary (Clara, I liked the fact that she named her diary) by him to learn her past. As she reads the diary, she believes that ‘she’ in the diary could not be her, though it is written by her. She gets to know about San from her diary and tries to uncover the mystery behind her past. Will she find how she lost her memory? Will she find out if she was really in love with Ashruth? Or was it San whom she loved deeply and madly? Will she uncover her past? Will she marry Ashruth or San?

To know the answers read the mysterious gripping fast-paced novel from the pen of GB – Just You, Me, and a Secret – A battle between past, present and the nothing called future.

For sure, the book will, tempt you to read the book at one stretch, as the more you read; the more you get into the story. The more you get into the story, the more the twists you expect, and GB does not fail us to surprise with the twist. I have read a book with the similar story line written by a famous Indian author published months after the release of GB’s Just, You, Me and a secret; the author failed to surprise us, but GB managed to do well. She deserves a High-Five for such a fantastic attempt. Overall, it was a great read!

The negative points are the font used in the book, paragraph alignment and other formatting stuff. I felt that it could have been done better, but then that does not take away any of the accolades, I have to give to this fantabulous book. I give this book a five-star rating.

That was the first time I saw her. And it was the most beautiful sight I had ever seen. For a moment, everything around me blurred. Time seemed to have come to a standstill. There was no music, just her and the roaring silence. Her beautiful, round face was flushed red with energy. Her pink luscious lips seemed to murmur something. She brought her hands to her ears and touched them. Then she raised her eyebrows, crinkled up her nose and made a little pout with her lips. She was gesturing a sorry. It was the cutest expression that I had ever seen. Something fluttered inside my stomach. She crinkled up her nose a little more. That moment, I wished I could just grab her and kiss her. Instead I just smiled. Satisfied that I had forgiven her, she smiled the prettiest smile in the world and there, at that moment, I realized I had lost my heart.
