Ganga is a consultant by profession and the Author of the books, “Just, You, Me and a Secret” and “A Minute to Death”. She is a creative writer, a passionate blogger, a script writer, a motion film maker and a director, with a creative mind and a beautiful heart that has captured the hearts of several people in reading world.
Ganga Bharani: Thank you so much for the warm welcome.
BLW: Firstly, congratulations on publishing the second book, A Minute To Death. Tell us a little about yourself.
I am a simple girl with complicated dreams.Ganga Bharani: I went to an engineering college to discover what I wanted to do or what I was passionate about, just like every other Indian teenager; I wanted to tell stories. Making stop motion and short films was just an accident that accelerated my journey to become a writer. Two of my short films have won awards at we care international film festival. I have two titles as mentioned above. I am sure I have already said more than just a "Little".
BLW: We know that you are one awesome writer. Just, You, Me and a Secret is a fast-paced gripping novel. What a reader we expect in the book, A Minute to Death? Tell us the secrets about your book, what it means to you, and how did you conceive the idea of writing on a topic that still seems to be a tough task to most of us? How long did it take to write this book?
Ganga Bharani: I would like to share with you the background of how this story materialised into a book. One of my colleagues was interested in making a short film
after I signed the contract and the next month,
I assumed I will become a Chethan or a Preethi.
I don't enjoy writing stories without suspense. As and when I write a new chapter I want to be entertained myself with the surprises my brain gives me with a new twist in the story. Most of the twists in my books are unplanned, they come with the flow as I write that particular chapter.
BLW: Riya and Rohan, San and Meera, which pair is your favorite?
Ganga Bharani: Riya and Rohan are really close to my heart. Though Meera was my first creation ever as a writer, I love Riya more. I am biased. Riya has a part of me, she is my reflection, a girl who shares my passion and goal. She is an aspiring writer In the book.
BLW: What inspired you to write this book?
Ganga Bharani: Death.
BLW: Just, You, Me and a Secret deals with medical aspects, what can we expect in A Minute to Death? Would you be sticking to one preferred style and genre in future?
Ganga Bharani: A minute to death is a crime thriller. Just you, me and a secret had a lot of romance, family drama along with suspense. But A Minute To Death has a lot of suspense and beautiful romance along with crime investigations. It is a cop story.
Fingers crossed. If this book is welcomed well by reader, I am planning to write a series of crime thrillers with the same characters. If it is not welcomed by readers, I will still write a crime series. :-)
BLW: We know what happened to your debut work. What was the verdict? Did you get justice?
Ganga Bharani: I have spoken so much about the injustice and my only motto was to bring it to light, To keep people informed of such things being possible. I reserve my comments related to this issue as this isn't the right time or space for it. I will surely inform you guys what happens at the end.
BLW: Apart from being a victim of plagiarism, what are the other biggest learning experience(s) or surprise(s) throughout the publishing process?
Ganga Bharani: Every single day I grow a little more as a writer. I learn new things and everything surprises me. When a reader mails me with so much excitement about his or her experience reading my book, it surprises me.
Patience is a lesson I am learning. It is very important for a writer to be patient for long waiting for responses from publishers and readers.
BLW: When do you write the most? Is there a favorite place at your home or office where you write the most? Any props that you feel lucky to keep with you when writing?
Ganga Bharani: I can write anywhere be it a noisy restaurant, a silent library or my room. I don't easily sit down to start writing but once I sit, you can't distract me until I complete writing what's playing inside my head.
BLW: As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?
Ganga Bharani: When I was a preprimary student I wanted to become a teacher as I thought teachers were most powerful. They had the power to control all of us.
During my primary school days I wanted to become an IAS officer as dad said they were the most powerful people of the country.
Middle school, my dreams shifted to becoming a doctor as we waited for long hours in clinics, even IAS officers had to wait to meet doctors, I heard. Doctors are the supreme power I thought and really wanted to become a doctor.
After 10th exams , I heard that engineers work in A/C cabins all day. Considering that I was from a middle class family of those days, a whole day in air conditioning was a big thing. I wanted that sophistication. I opted computer science as my major.
I wanted to become a software engineer till the first day of college. Finally, I figured out that if I was good at something it was cooking stories. I had always cooked up convincible stories to support my absence or laziness for not finishing assignments. So here I am telling you such a big story for a simple question.
BLW: What are your inspirations in life?
Ganga Bharani: Life itself is an inspiration for me. We are allowed to live and I really enjoy the fact that there a system here on earth for human beings. Every person is a million stories piled up in a particular order to call it his or her life.
BLW: What books have inspired or influenced you as a writer?
Ganga Bharani: Movies have inspired me and have heavily influenced me. I watch Movies from across the world. JKR inspire me as a person. Her life has inspired me more than her books.
BLW: We would be happy to know about any future projects that you are currently working on?
Ganga Bharani: As I said I want to write a series of crime thriller. I am too tired murdering, I have done that enough, so I want to go to school and fall in love again. My next book might be a romance novella. I am in talks with a publisher and it's too early to comment about it.
BLW: What other secret skills do you have?
Just kidding. I have a lot of dreams to create some secret in my life. But as of now all I know is to write and I am not even sure yet if I do that well.
BLW: We know you enjoy reading books? What are the best books you have ever read? Name any five.
Ganga Bharani: No cook would tell you the restaurants he ate in, will he?
BLW: What advice would you give to all those aspiring authors who consider you as an ideal?
Ganga Bharani: I am yet to reach a place where I could be called something close to an ideal. But even if I am there I would say that I'm not an ideal And that's the best advice. Every writer is different so don't aspire to become like someone else.
BLW: Message for the book lovers in this world!
Ganga Bharani: My book will be available soon, please read and let me know how it is. I hope I have done justice to the money and time you spend on it.
